The term Soyouz has an historic significance. It was the name given to the family of soviet and then Russian spaceships. Russia has now teamed up with Europe to organise future missions.

A Soyouz rocket is currently being assembled at the French Space Centre, located in French Guyana. It should take off on its inaugural flight towards the end of 2010. Other launches have already been planned over the course of the next few years.

Since the launch of the first space satellite in 1957, Soyouz has undertaken no less than 1,800 missions! In 1961, it took the first man into space, the Soviet astronaut Youri Gagarine.
